The classic CPO (Chief Petty Officer) Shirt originated almost 100 years ago, and has been widely appreciated ever since. It’s a jacket or a shirt, depending upon what you need and what else you wear.  Our CPO is an extremely versatile piece in a basic, historical design.

As of 2024, our CPO is offered in two types of Fabric, with three color choices in each.

  • Jacquard Fabric:  Drab Green; Lynx Pattern; Natural White
  • :  Charcoal (Black); Indigo;  Natural White.  Near as I can tell, we are the only source of 100% Wool Denim!

The only Fabric/Color we are NOT making during this Pre-Order period is Drab Green, but some of those are still in stock.

CPOs are offered in sizes from XXSmall to 4XLarge:

  • MidWeight CPOs are $475 up to size 2XLarge;  3XLarge, $495;  4XLarge, $515
  • Denim CPOs are $455 up to size 2XLarge;  3XLarge, $475;  4XLarge, $495

If you are looking for a warmer shirt with handwarmer pockets, please take a look at our , (FullWeight Jacquard Fabrics:  Black;  Brown;  Drab;  Lynx Pattern;  Natural White).

The CPO is typically a 2nd layer but often a 3rd layer and is sometimes worn as a mid-layer or even a base-layer. Some people will tuck the CPO into their Pants.  Our Fabric is comfortable enough that the CPO can be worn over a short-sleeve base-layer or even as a base-layer (as in the video at bottom).  More people are telling me the CPO without a base layer is great in rain.

Predicting what garments will work for which people is always tricky because there are so many variables.  For me, the MidWeight CPO is warm enough for active wear throughout the winter in New Jersey, in temperatures below freezing, with one or two light base layers.  MidWeight Fabric has a lot of warmth, but it's not designed for sitting in freezing temps.  Our Denim is new this year, and I haven't tested it all that much.  I think it's a little less than the MidWeight but still performs better than might be expected by people who have not worn our wool before.  I expect to know a lot more about our Denim by April of 2025!

At left you will find two color palettes, one for MidWeight Fabric and the other for Denim:

  • MidWeight Palette shows Drab Green, Lynx Pattern and Natural White
  • Denim Palette shows both front and back of the Charcoal, as well as Indigo and Natural White.  We'll get a better Denim palette up soon.

WeatherWool Advisor Leo Grizzaffi, the outdoor writer, .

published by  and written by , the magazine's field editor and a well-known tester of outdoor products. The review was written when we referred to the CPO as a ShirtJac (sorry for confusion!).

And a neat comment sent to us by customer Bruce Carlson:  ""Received my XL Lynx [CPO Shirt] yesterday. Wore it to work today. 5-6 compliments … everyone wanted to 'touch' it!"". People wanting to ""touch it"" is something we hear often about Lynx Pattern.

MidWeight CPO, walking in light rain, temp of 66F/19C, without a base layer ... a day when the MidWeight CPO was better than anything else I can think of ... with no base layer at all!

Please Note: We still have inventory of the previous model of CPO if you prefer the button collar.
